Be Inspired By The Once Shy Laura Weyl

I came across an interesting artist who lives in Brooklyn New York.

Laura Weyl is her name.  What drew (pardon the arty pun ) me to her, apart from her work and this image of two lovely ripe avocados and some bananas, was what she said...

“When I see someone that intrigues me I pursue them….whether it means talking to them in the street, contacting someone whose work I’ve seen at a gallery or confronting someone I see dancing at a club. I am never shy or intimidated anymore because I see a glimpse of these individuals that inspires me….”

So can you imagine that this hugely creative and somewhat fearless human was once shy…is that possible? At what point did she realise, I am not getting anywhere letting this fear and internal doubt encapsulate me.

Did she wake up and paint herself purple, put on a tu-tu and race around New York naked shouting…..

"I AM NOT SHY ANYMORE!!"

Hmmmmm perhaps she did....it is NEW YORK after all!!

The point is...

That as an artistic person, one that looks at things that little bit differently, how often have you...

  • Passed an opportunity to capture an amazing image....

  • To take a quick sketch of something on the bus or train that touched you...

  • To talk to someone, someone who inspired your thoughts as you looked at them....

How many missed opportunities for inspiration have you passed due to the FEAR of embarrassment or just being shy!

Let's look at this and try to make a conscious effort to step outside our comfort zone to inspire our work, make connections with like-minded people and generally break the mould. The next time you see an amazing face you want to capture, stop and ask to take a photo! You will make someone's day, if not the beginning of a new piece of work.

IT WILL INSPIRE YOU

IT WILL FEEL GOOD
