What The Hell Is An Elevator Pitch & Why So Powerful?

So you have heard of an 'Elevator pitch'....is that where you scream at the top of your lungs in a lift? Nope, but I bet that would feel just as good as nailing the 'Elevator pitch' we are going to talk about.

I always got the heebie jeebies when other 'business' people began to talk about this subject. Nodding frequently and making a quick sharp exit to run to the loo, in case someone asked my opinion. WTF is an 'Elevator pitch' !? - images of a long board room table with people pitching their ideas for multi million dollar deals.

Really nothing to do with me.

I am a small business owner.

I wear gold trainers.

I do not own a suit.

Pitching is for the big guys...right! 

WRONG!

It is creating a one liner - a sentence you can deliver over and over and not sound like a twat! An 'Elevator Pitch' is one of the most powerful tools you can use for your business. This sentence is the key to nailing what your business is all about and who you are selling to. It makes you dig deep to find out exactly what you are trying to achieve.

Once I identified my 'Elevator Pitch' I could confidently stand up and deliver a clear vision & message to the people listening and to myself! Not only did this give me clarity but it gave me the direction and confidence to drive forward with my business. It is written in big letters and pinned to my wall in my office - I refer to it every day and keep my work aligned to this statement.

Here is a useful tool to try to identify what your pitch is......

WE WORK WITH (target market) THAT ARE EXPERIENCING (problem) AND ARE LOOKING FOR (our unique value). WE HELP THEM (reason to believe) SO THEY CAN (value) AND PROVIDE THEM WITH (benefit) IN ORDER TO (marketing objectives ) 

I would use as many words and explanations as you want with this, initially. Then break is down as much as possible, ending up with a one liner. Take your time, think about it and identify the key things here - 1. What is your Unique Value 2. Why would your target market trust you to deliver ( reason to believe)
